Let’s get to know Dhrumil Kumbhani
Those are some lovely words by Mikin. Let’s get to know Dhrumil a bit better and ask him some questions about his work and passion for WordPress:
Hi, Dhrumil! How did you first discover WordPress, and why did you start contributing?
I first discovered WordPress in 2017 while I was studying in college. At that time, I created my first blog using WordPress, which sparked my interest in website development and content publishing. As I explored the platform, I became fascinated by its flexibility and the learning opportunities it offered for web development.
After graduation, I started my career as a WordPress developer, gaining hands-on experience building websites, plugins, themes, and custom solutions for clients. Along the way, I attended WordCamps, local meetups, and community events, where I learned more about the open-source philosophy behind WordPress and the many ways people contribute to the project.
The welcoming nature of the WordPress community inspired me to start contributing. Since then, I have contributed to WordPress Core, Meta, Accessibility, Testing, Plugins, Themes, and Translations. Contributing has helped me grow both professionally and personally, allowing me to learn from experienced contributors, solve real-world challenges, and give back to a platform that has played such an important role in my career journey.
What do you think made you stand out for this nomination?
I believe my consistent involvement across multiple areas of WordPress may have contributed to this nomination. While many contributors focus on a single team, I have tried to contribute wherever I can create value, including Core, Meta, Accessibility, Testing, Plugins, Themes, and Translations.
I have also developed plugins, contributed to WordPress releases, and helped improve Gujarati translations. My goal has never been recognition; instead, I focus on supporting the project and community whenever possible. Being considered for this nomination is a meaningful acknowledgment of the time and effort I have invested in WordPress over the years.
What advice would you give to someone just starting with WordPress?
My advice would be to start by building something practical and learning through experience. WordPress offers many ways to contribute, whether through development, design, documentation, translations, testing, or community support. You do not need to be an expert to get involved. Begin with small contributions, ask questions, and connect with the community. The WordPress ecosystem is welcoming and full of people willing to help newcomers. Most importantly, focus on consistency rather than perfection. Small contributions made regularly can lead to significant growth and opportunities over time.
Who is your WordPress mentor?
I have been fortunate to have two mentors who have played an important role in my WordPress journey: Mikin Chauhan, and Ankit Panchal. Both of them have guided me from the early stages of my career and helped me understand not only WordPress development but also the importance of contributing back to the open-source community.
They encouraged me to attend WordCamps, participate in local meetups, explore different contributor teams, and continuously learn new skills. Through their guidance, I gained a deeper understanding of WordPress Core, plugins, themes, translations, and community contributions. They were always willing to share their knowledge, answer questions, and motivate me to take on new challenges.
Much of what I have achieved as a contributor today is a result of the support, encouragement, and mentorship they provided. I am grateful for their guidance and the positive impact they have had on both my professional growth and my contribution journey within the WordPress community.
Where can people connect with you? Online, at WordCamps, or other meetups?
People can connect with me through my WordPress.org profile, LinkedIn, GitHub, and community events. I enjoy discussing WordPress development, contributions, plugins, themes, and open source collaboration. I am always happy to connect with fellow contributors, developers, and community members who share an interest in WordPress. Whether it is through online discussions, contribution initiatives, or WordCamp events, I value opportunities to learn from others and contribute back to the community whenever possible.
